Various motives exist for eliminating this system:
*Power. A variety of aftermarket cams are extremely effective *Eliminates oft problematic vct solenoid and gear *Tunability. Bolt on a readily available aftermarket adjustable cam gear for concise, consistent user set cam retard / advance timing. *Aftermarket ECU compatibility. Many stand alone ECU’s cannot control and or will not work with the OE VCT hardware *Weight. Even a factory steel pulley weighs less than half the weight of an OEM VCT gears (Aftermarket aluminum pullies weigh even less). This may not seem like much, but those aspiring to high RPM superiority will appreciate this lower rotating mass.
